In this regular feature Dave and Tom respond to questions from listeners and readers of The Berean Call. This week they will address other questions concerning the evangelical communities’ relations with the UnificationChurch.
T. A. McMahon:
Dave, this is normally our Q & A, but we are going to do something a little different. I want to pick up on our last segment talking about Sun Yung Moon, the Lord of the Second Advent as he refers to himself and just give our audience some particulars. Now, we will repeat this at the end but if somebody doubting what I am saying, if they will go to this internet address: www.members.aol.com/greatblesstpandtf.html. So, Sun Yung Moon is not trying to hide any of this, he is presenting his theology. Now, you mentioned that he said that Jesus did not fulfill His mission. Well, in His mission, according to Sun Yung Moon, He was supposed to marry, which you mentioned, but He was supposed to marry the daughter of Elizabeth and Zechariah, that is, the sister of John the Baptist. But they did not fulfill that mission so He could be married. Now, in the process, and he lays out a whole theology with regard to why this is important, and in the process of Jesus not fulfilling His ministry, I’m just going to read a section here.
Dave Hunt:
Now, this is Sun Yung Moon. This is an address that he gave at one of these conferences?
T. A. McMahon:
Yes, it is and it’s a historic one because, as I said, all you have to do is go right to that website and you can read it word for word.
Dave Hunt:
Is that the same conference where all of these celebrities were?
T. A. McMahon:
No, I think this was more for his own group.
Dave Hunt:
Okay.
T. A. McMahon:
So, Elizabeth didn’t fulfill her ministry by preparing her daughter—does the Bible give—
Dave Hunt:
We don’t know that there was a daughter.
T. A. McMahon:
Okay, so somehow he came up with this extra-biblically. But in the process, I’ll read some of this; I’ll read some sections from this. He said, “What would have happened at the time Mary had explained everything candidly, if she had exposed everything that could have been the end of a plan?” Now, this is referring to Mary not telling Joseph the real reason why she was pregnant, and says: So, Mary simply responded that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit, but she wasn’t being honest with Joseph. Sun Yung Moon goes on. “But Joseph was a righteous man, he believed in the revelation of God and defended Mary saying the pregnancy was his responsibility. Mary may have been ridiculed for becoming pregnant during her engagement but she had avoided death by stoning.” Find that biblically. I’ll go on. “Joseph suspicions about the Father of Jesus only increased. As Jesus grew older the two became more and more distant in heart and because of this, family problems frequently arose. Jesus was viewed as an illegitimate son and lacking in protection of Zechariah’s family by not extending their protection and offering their daughter to Jesus. Jesus grew up with an indescribable loneliness in his heart.” So, there was no bride for Jesus, according to Sun Yung Moon. “The Messiah is the true parent and to fulfill His mission He needed to receive his substantial bride.” He goes on. “Consequently, Jesus in the place of Adam as the Son of God should have received as His bride the younger sister of someone in an Archangelic position. That bride was to have been none other than Zechariah’s daughter, the younger sister of John the Baptist.” Going on here, “We should consider the influence that Joseph and Mary’s relationship had on Jesus. Mary had to restore the position of Eve and Tamar (which he explains) so she should have remained only as the fiancée of Joseph.” Dave, the point here is, and we are running out of time on this segment, but the point here is that this man has made up these things as he went along. These are anti-biblical, anti-Christian ideas, he has replaced Jesus as, they said, the Messiah, the true parent.
Dave Hunt:
Amazingly, he says it was Jesus who gave him his mission and Jesus appeared to him, he claims. This was in a trial in New York and they had him on the witness stand because he was being sued by someone who gave millions of dollars and wanted it back. And, the lawyer for the plaintiff asked: “How did you know it was Jesus who appeared to you? Well, he said, I recognized Him from his picture.” Wow, they wanted to get him off of that stand as fast as they could. The guy is making a fool of himself. So, on the one hand, he says Jesus failed in his mission, on the other hand, he says Jesus commissioned him. Tom, it is just so blatantly false and ridiculous, how can anyone go along with it and yet, that seems to be what people want.
T. A. McMahon:
Right, and I would encourage anyone, this tour is still going on, if it comes to your area call up the people and ask them if they are Christians and how they can support something like this.
