Is the European Union Setting the Stage for Antichrist?

In this regular feature Dave and Tom respond to questions from listeners and readers of The Berean Call.  Here is this week’s question: Dear Tom and Dave, I don’t hear you guys talk much about the European Union.Do you see it as playing a role in setting up the kingdom of the antichrist?

Tom:

Well we haven’t written much in our newsletter about the European Union, but we do watch it.We see it developing; we can certainly see its attitude toward Israel, which is not good news.

Dave:

Yes, we’ve talked about it quite a bit in the past Tom.I think we can become too absorbed in some of these things.We know that a world government and a world religion will be the reality coming up under the antichrist.Exactly how that comes about and trying to find some specific significance to daily developments, I think is a past time that some people have taken on and they have to keep changing their ideas, you know, with every piece of news that comes out.Oh that has this great importance and so forth.I’m not denying the importance of the European Union, but there’s a lot more than the European Union that will be involved.The antichrist will be worshiped by the entire world.It will be a world government as well as a world religion.We were just over there in Europe.We used some Euro dollars.It’s interesting, each nation has a right to make their own images and so forth, their own coins and money so in Greece there is a Euro coin, a Greek Euro coin that has a woman riding a beast.

Tom:

Now did they do that for your benefit Dave?Did they do that after your—

Dave:

They probably read my book, yes and did that.

Tom:

Right, right.

Dave:

The symbol of the European Union is a woman riding a beast and then interestingly enough, they used to have a poster where they were promoting European Union.This would be ten years ago now, and it had the tower of Babel.

Tom:

Now Dave, for some of our listeners who have never heard of anything along this line, what’s the significance of a woman rides the beast?

Dave:

Well this is in Revelation 17 and the woman riding the beast I mean, is one of the most amazing visions that John had of a false church that would arise, that will literally for a time control the antichrist it would seem.The antichrist is the beast, the revived Roman empire is the beast and you’ve got a woman riding this thing.Not like in a rodeo, it’s not trying to buck her off.She seems to be in control and there is no question, there are at least fourteen identifying characteristics.The angel says I will show you the mystery.I will tell you who this woman is.The city on seven hills, rules over the kings of the earth, committed fornication with the kings of the earth.The colors are purple and scarlet and on and on it goes.I don’t think there’s any doubt that this was the Vatican as the head of a false world religion.So that they would use this symbolism is rather interesting.And it gets even more interesting.They used the Tower of Babel and the woman’s name is Mystery Babylon the Great.Well the city of Babylon was built around the Tower of Babel.I can never forget reading Scientific American.Here was an ad by Lockheed Corporation, the Tower of Babel again.And the ad said “We are undoing the Babel effect.”

Tom:

Right.

Dave:

What was the Babel affect that they’re undoing?Well because of the wickedness of man and because they could do whatever they imagined, he confounded their languages and scattered them.By the way, in just certain definite areas.Paul said on Mars Hill, “He has determined the bounds of their habitation that they should seek the Lord to find him.”Instead, what is it that the world thinks is the solution today?To undo Babel; to unite everyone and get everyone speaking the same language.So Lockheed said with our computers we’re undoing the Babel affect and you know that this is happening.Now they already have the technology, but soon you’ll be able to pick up a phone in America, speak English and someone in China will hear you in Chinese.Or someone in India will hear you in one of the Indian dialects and they speak in their language and you will hear them in English.So literally, I remember an IBM ad again with the Tower of Babel, so it seems that the world recognizes we are undoing something that God did back there.He confounded the languages; he scattered the people because of their wickedness and man is supposed to seek God and the salvation and the peace that he brings alone through Jesus Christ.Instead, man has his own idea.He’s going to undo the Babel affect however you want to announce it and he’s going to unite the world with his computers.We are going to solve our problem.So the European Union of course is at the forefront of this.This is incredible what is happening.Wars have come to an end over there.Russia wants to be part of this.The Eastern European nations want to be part of this and they are joining.We are getting a coalition such as the world has never seen before.I don’t think you would be stretching it to see in this some steps toward the one world government and the one world religion.And we are seeing more and more of that.In fact, you remember years ago, the Soviet Union should be part of this western coalition because of our Christian heritage.We’re Christians too.So we have a religion—Christianity supposedly, but a false Christianity that is going to unite the world.Antichrist will claim to be Christ and we’ve talked a great deal about that in the past.It’s rather interesting Tom, but to make too much of it and to say this is exactly how it going to play out—that I couldn’t do.
