See All... tells us that we are not to be “drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit…” in contrast to the flesh. The issue here is control. As wine to a certain degree controls us and influences our actions, we in contrast must be filled with the Spirit. The Holy Spirit then becomes that which prompts our praying, singing, and blessing. The Scriptures continually urge us to consider the example of the Lord Jesus Christ, who did everything in submission to and dependence upon His Father (John:5:19Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
