There is no basis for self-esteem/respect, even if I obey and serve God perfectly, for it can only be through His grace and power and not of Self. Moreover, Christ said that if we do everything we are supposed to do, we must still regard ourselves as unprofitable servants who have done only what we ought to have done. In fact, we are less than that and thus have cause for shame as fallen creatures, not for self-respect or self-esteem or self-worth! —TBC
