Consider Revelation:1:16And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
See All... in a passage describing the awesome majesty of the Lord Jesus Christ. The narrative states that “out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword. . . .” We know that Jesus does not literally have a two-edged sword in His mouth. Nevertheless, with this image we are able to have some understanding concerning the authority and power by which our Lord and Savior speaks. This is complicated, however, by our limited understanding. As we read through the book of Revelation, there are some passages that are clearly literal, some that are clearly symbolic, and some that are difficult to judge. It would be good to remember the admonition of James: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not…” (James:1:5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
