Hold Fast
The writer of Hebrews (whom I believe to be Paul) was inspired to exhort the recipients of the letter to “…give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip” (Hebrews:2:1Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

There is, however, on an individual basis, a slip-prevention program that every believer can employ that can put the brakes on, and reverse the damaging trend. It’s “Holding fast the faithful word….” Against the overwhelming amount of false teachings and practices that abound throughout Christendom, it’s only a knowledge of and living out the “faithful word” that will produce confidence in God’s truth. That comes about by diligence (meaning daily reading and doing what God’s Word says).
Here are some scriptural exhortations and encouragements: Prove all things; hold fast that which is good (2 Thessalonians:5:21

Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers (Titus:1:9Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end (Hebrews:3:6But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward (Hebrews:10:23Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
