Getting It Right!
In this issue’s feature article, I emphasize the importance of getting a true understanding of what God has said in His Word. If that’s not our objective when we study the Bible, things can get off track very quickly and rather easily. The consequence of such an occurrence is termed eisegesis, which has more to do with man inserting his own ideas regarding what the Bible is saying instead of understanding what God is actually communicating.
Second Timothy 2:15 encourages every believer to “Study [‘be diligent’—NKJV] to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” This verse may contain the best exhortation and instructions found in the Scriptures regarding being “approved unto God,” not being “ashamed” when we stand before Jesus, and for growing in discernment as we “rightly divide the word of truth.”
Any lesser effort will cause us to slip from the “Good News” to bad news!
