Restoring Lovingkindness and Tender Mercies

As pointed out in this month’s article, the replication among Christians of God’s lovingkindnesses and tender mercies is on the wane. The non-Christian world recognizes among its own a diminishing of kindness as well. Nevertheless, some are attempting to turn that condition around by publicizing the activity of “practicing random acts of kindness.”

The situation for Christians is much different. Randomness doesn’t cut it. Purposeful and continual obedience to what God’s Word commands does. Manifesting lovingkindness and tender mercies by believers is not a concealed affair. We’re either doing it or we’re not. One obvious test is how we speak to each other: spouse to spouse; parents to children; children to parents; sibling to sibling. “Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings…”

(1 Peter:2:1). It shouldn’t surprise us as to how beneficial this simple obedience will prove to be when it comes to troubled relationships.
