Nuggets from Occult Invasion—A Dangerous Pseudoscience

Psychological theories come and go in a merry-go-round of confusion. For example, drapetomania was the official psychiatric diagnosis of a “mental illness” that was epidemic in early America. Affecting only slaves, it was marked by the compulsion to escape the plantation—a mental illness that was cured by the Civil War. Today, “mental illnesses” are created or cured by vote. In previous decades homosexuality was always recognized as unnatural behavior. In 1974, however, on the basis of a vote by members of the American Psychiatric Association (5854 to 3810), homosexuality was changed from deviant/abnormal behavior to “sexual preference.” Finally it was removed from the diagnostic manuals altogether. This is not science.
