Professor Charles Tart considers transpersonal psychology to be spiritual psychology. He has been called “one of this country’s leading scholars on transpersonal psychology, the psychology of spiritual growth. His anthologies, Altered States of Consciousness and Transpersonal Psychologies, are generally considered classics.” Tart writes:

“Spiritual Psychologies…that show you how to grow spiritually, can be found embedded in Sufism, in various forms of Buddhism such as Zen, within traditional yogic practices…[etc.] They usually…[teach] that our true destiny is to evolve toward some higher spiritual nature….”
