The 1993 Parliament of the World’s Religions was sponsored not only by the American Buddhist Congress and Spiritual Assembly of Baha’is, but also by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago, the Catholic Theological Union, Chicago’s Lutheran School of Theology, the Evangelical Church in America, Chicago Synod, the United Methodist Church, Northern Illinois Conference, Presbyterian Church (USA), and the united Christ of Christ, Ecumenical Affairs, Chicago. The Vatican’s official representative to the Parliament was “His Excellent the Most Reverend Francesco Gioia, of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.”
