They add to these scientific facts their religious belief (which must be accepted by faith) that matter is all there is, ever was, or ever will be. Of course, this raises many immediate questions. Matter is simply one form of energy, the basic component of the universe. What is energy? Scientists do not know. Where did it come from? How long has it existed? These are very basic questions, yet they remain unanswered by science. How did the “laws” governing matter arise, and why does unthinking and unconscious matter follow them? Scientists can’t say. Having rejected in our public schools even the possibility of a Creator, atheists confess that they can explain neither matter nor life.
