The Chosen

According to its producers, The Chosen is "the first-ever multi-season series about the life of Christ. It's the free show that tens of millions of people won't stop talking about." Its webpage states that the series presents Jesus "as witnessed through the eyes of those he impacted." Under the heading "What You Need to Know" from Movieguide.org, we're told, "THE CHOSEN is a faithful adaptation of stories in the Gospels. Familiar Gospel characters are given full lives, and Sunday school stories are given new, exciting contexts." "THE CHOSEN is delightful. At the core of its success are brave, artistic storytelling choices. They bring new life to the familiar tales. The writers balance perfectly between faithful biblical interpretation and a willingness to use their imagination." The "Need to Know" section concludes that a "strong, faithful Christian message lies at the program's heart, which takes seriously the life and miracles of Jesus." 

Other information given by those representing the production of The Chosen include: "The film series is an attempt to present the authentic Jesus...and this authentic Jesus needs to go out to more people, we want to get it out to a billion people…." “So, I love the fact thatour communities [Catholic, Jewish, Evangelical, Mormon] are coming together with our celebration, our worship, and our faith.” "The Chosen is not adding to the Bible, rather it presents 'backstories,' that is, information that helps to develop the biblical characters." “I can honestly say . . . one of the top three most fascinating and beautiful things about this project has been my growing brother-and-sisterhood with people of the LDS community...." "I don’t deny we have a lot of theological differences, but we love the same Jesus.”
