Many have the idea that prophecy is limited to foretelling events of the future. According to Paul, he who “prophesies speaks unto men to edification, exhortation, and comfort.” A study of the entire Bible will show numerous examples of people prophesying who were doing such things as playing instruments and singing. How many of us in the course of listening to a Bible-inspired hymn or chorus have been edified, exhorted, and comforted? All this requires gifting from the Lord. —TBC
