Paul asked this question of the Corinthians. We see in this passage a clear recognition of diversity, with a caution that the end must result in the edification of believers. The document seems to be an attempt to accommodate that diversity while maintaining the order.

"How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying."

1 Corinthians:14:26
