We are to trust the Scriptures above the pronouncement of any man or woman. In addition, the fact that someone quotes Scripture does not validate their ministry. It has been often pointed out that during the temptation in the wilderness, Satan quoted Scripture to the Lord (Matthew 4; Luke 4). One can point to several cults whose founders began receiving prophecies at a very early age. According to 1 Corinthians:14:3But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
See All..., the New Testament prophet “speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.” We certainly can use this kind of prophecy. Unfortunately, the natural bent of humanity is to look to those who profess to foretell the future instead of those who tell forth the Word of God.
