Can you explain why God became a man and died on the Cross for us?
Last year I had a Muslim in his twenties ask me that question. It was an experience I’ll never forget. There was no hint of a challenge in his voice; this was not intellectual curiosity but rather an honest desire to understand why I believed that aspect of the gospel I had just presented in a hall packed with university students. Although he revered Jesus, I knew he believed that Jesus could not be God incarnate nor did He die on the cross because those beliefs are rejected in the Qur’an. Nevertheless, he was looking for an explanation.
It’s not every day that I have the occasion to explain such an important belief to someone who genuinely desires to know the reason for the hope I have in Jesus (1 Peter:3:15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
See All...), so I rejoiced within at the opportunity the Lord provided.
What’s your explanation? Does it explain why Jesus had to be God and a man in order to pay for the sins of mankind? If you are unsure, read again Dave’s explanation in this month’s article.
