Vacation Bible (Home!) School
Summertime traditionally has been the opportune time for churches to introduce neighborhood children (who don’t attend church) to teachings from the Bible. Those in which I have participated as a volunteer seemed to me a nice mixture of biblical fundamentals and fun things for the children to do. I know from my own experience that seeds were planted that produced good spiritual fruit. Too bad those VBS programs that are truly biblically based only last for a week.
That thought gave me a “summertime” idea for families who know the Lord. Why not try a “Vacation Bible Home School” —a VBS-type program that is incorporated as a continuing part of family summer activities.
Moses quite possibly had something like that in mind when he wrote: “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children…” (Deuteronomy:6:4-7 [4] Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
[5] And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
[6] And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
[7] And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
