Nuggets from “Judgment Day: Islam, Israel, and the Nations” by Dave Hunt
The pope knew how to express himself forcefully when he wanted to – and he did so in opposition to the reestablishment of Israel in its own Promised Land. He both worked behind the scenes and openly to prevent Israel’s restoration, to which he and his Church were adamantly opposed. On June 22, 1943, with the smoke of burning Jews hanging like a pall over Europe, the pope wrote to President Roosevelt:
“It is true that at one time Palestine was inhabited by the Hebrew Race, but there is no axiom in history to substantiate the necessity of a people returning to a country they left nineteen centuries before. If a “Hebrew Home” is desired, it would not be too difficult to find a more fitting territory than Palestine. With an increase in the Jewish population there, grave, new international problems would arise.”
Of course, there is “no axiom in history” that would require the Jews to return to their land (this is a unique event) — but there are hundreds of promises from God to that effect. How could the pope, if he were really the representative of Christ on earth, the head of the true Church, have overlooked the hundreds of promises in God’s Word that would restore the Jews to their ancient land? Indeed, how could the pope and his Church dare to defy God in this regard!
As the war neared its end, the pope pleaded with the Allied Forces to deal leniently with Hitler and Mussolini. Both were Catholics to their deaths. Pius XII never excommunicated either of these master criminals and mass murderers.
