Wagner calls Wimber “my mentor.” Wimber said, “We are cataloguing all of our experiences so we can develop a theology.” What happened to the Bible? Don Lewis of Regent College rightly points out that Wimber’s insistence that “critical thinking must be laid aside” is “nothing less than dangerous.” On more than one tape this author has heard Wimber say, “When are we going to see a generation that doesn’t try to understand this book [the Bible] and just believes it?” But one cannot believe what one does not understand. The biblical emphasis is upon understanding, not feelings and experiences (Jeremiah:9:24But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
