The year 2000 does not represent a measure of time since the birth of Buddha or Confucius or Mohammed, but since the birth of Christ. The initials A.D. are short for Anno Domini, meaning “in the year of our Lord.” Christ’s birth determines dates used all over the world, even in atheistic countries or those of a non-Christian religion. Behind every date on each calendar, coin, or document is the Person Jesus Christ and the great even of God’s incarnation through the virgin birth in Bethlehem. The turn of the millennium, therefore, cannot escape its association with Jesus Christ.
