Gary is offering the world a generic “Jesus” who “belongs to people everywhere, no matter what their race or creed…the hope of revolutionaries and evolutionaries, he fascinates intellectuals and anti-intellectuals….” The book proposes that Christ can be celebrated by everyone as “the Star of 2000…the greatest religious genius that ever lived…the outstanding personality of all time…one of the greatest teachers humanity has ever had…the most important and influential person who has ever lived…the celebrity…history’s most intriguing figure,” etc. Such humanistic praise appeals to mankind’s fallen nature and natural inclination to worship heroes. The closer the world is drawn to this false Jesus, however, the further it will be removed from Jesus Christ and His gospel and mission.
