The whole world knows of that sacrificial service and admired her for picking derelicts from the gutters of Calcutta and elsewhere to care for them. But what a tragedy that these pitiful creatures were then launched from a clean bed into a Christless eternity without being told the gospel which alone could save them! It is a gospel which Mother Teresa, as a lifelong Catholic, sadly, didn’t know. She often said that she wanted to help those she comforted to “become a better Hindu, a better Muslim, a better Catholic, a better whatever [they] are….” In contrast to the Bible, which warns that, “Jesus Christ…is the true God and eternal life…keep yourselves from idols!” (1 John:5:20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
