Nuggets from An Urgent Call to a Serious Faith by Dave Hunt - God, Savior, or Servant?

How can God be the only Savior, yet Jesus Christ is the only Savior? And how can God call the Savior His servant and punish Him for the sins of the world? This is only possible with the Trinity. John refers to Jesus Christ like this: “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes…and our hands have handled…that eternal life, which was with the Father…declare we unto you…And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world” (1 John:1:1-3 [1] That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; [2] (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) [3] That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

The Father sent the Son! Isaiah had already prophesied this remarkable event: “For unto us a child is born [the babe in Bethlehem], unto us a son is given [the eternal Son of God]: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father…of his Governement and peace there shall be no end [He is the Messiah who is to rule Israel on David’s throne]” (Isaiah:9:6-7 [6] For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. [7] Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. So the babe that is to be born in Bethlehem of a virgin is both man and “The mighty God,” he is both the Son of God, yet He is also “The everlasting Father.” Jesus declared, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father…I and my Father are one” (John:14:9Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

Only God could be and is the Savior; but His Servant, the Messiah, whom He sent to earth is the Savior. The Savior must be both God and man; and this is only possible because of the Trinity whereby the Father could send His Son, who is God and One with Him, to be the Savior of the world.
