Many churches today have staff members beyond just the pastor and music minister but an Atlanta church is making news with a new hire: a self-described psychic medium.
Lakara Foster has been brought on to the staff of Vision Church in Atlanta.
“My name is Lakara Foster,” she says in a promotional video, “and I possess an extraordinary gift.”
In particular, that “gift” is talking to the dead.
“No spirit with which she communicates is really of God,” responds Christian apologist Dr. Alex McFarland. “She's communicating with demons and doesn't know it.”
[He notes] “…I would probably choose for my text Second Corinthians 11:14 [which] warns Satan disguises himself as an angel of light…” “…Revelation:21:8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
See All... [also] talks about those that have been deceived and do not inherit the kingdom of heaven, which includes ‘sorcerers.’”
Foster is quoted in a news story, however, claiming that her supposed gift is biblical because the Book of James states that “every good and perfect gift is from above.”
A Christian Post story about Foster describes Vision Church as a “progressive congregation” without explaining that description but the church’s website states that its pastor, Bishop O.C. Allen III, is married to his “life-partner,” who is a man.
McFarland has another warning for Foster and Vision Church: it’s understandable when lost people do lost things but if you claim the name of Christ, you'd better not stray from the Word of God.
“We're on extremely dangerous, perilous, tenuous ground,” warns McFarland, “when we go outside of the pages of God's Word in search of truth.”

[TBC: The few verses mentioned are only the tip of the iceberg. The Bible forbids communication with the dead (necromancy). Lev:19:31Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
See All...; Deut. 18:9-12, 15; 1 Sam. 28; 1 Chron:10:13-14 [13] So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;
[14] And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
See All...; Isa:8:19And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
See All... are some of the scriptures which may be cited.
The passage in Isaiah is quite to the point regarding communication with the dead: “And when they say to you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits [mediums], and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isaiah:8:19-20 [19] And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
[20] To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
