Here I Go Again! Care to Join Me?
Every January, for as long as I’ve been a believer, I set a goal to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation by year’s end. What’s my completion average? Dismal. Nevertheless, I keep trying. A couple of times I started in November in order to give myself a running start for the upcoming year.
The good news in all of this is that even in my weakest efforts I read at least half of the Scriptures. However, lest I forget the goal and nurture my self-esteem in spite of my anemic attempts, I need to keep in mind this embarrassing and convicting fact: It only takes about 50 hours to read the Bible through. So even with six to seven hours sleep per night, that leaves about 6,250 waking hours to accomplish the task.
If you would care to join me in the 2006 endeavor, we could make this a team effort by checking up on (encouraging, chiding, cheering on, harassing [in the Spirit, of course!], etc.) one another throughout the year.
