Performance Matters
As believers, our performance matters. It doesn’t save us. That’s something that only Jesus could do, and did do, for those who believed the gospel. As Ephesians:2:10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
See All... declares: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
“Created in Christ Jesus unto good works” tells us that our life in Christ is to be glorifying to Him and a blessing to others. Anything less than this is missing the mark of the commandments of Jesus—in other words, not obeying “His words [and] His sayings” (John:14:23-24 [23] Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
[24] He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
See All...).
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked (1 John:2:3-6 [3] And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
[4] He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
[5] But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
[6] He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
See All...).
Jesus not only instructs us in what to do that pleases Him (i.e., our performance), but He also enables us to do these things by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we are without excuse.
